Rhodium is a rare metal in the platinum family and is about twice as expensive as gold. It is extremely hard but its principal advantage is that, because it does not oxidize, it always keeps its magnificent silver sheen. Rhodium is often used with silver to presser its beautiful appearance. The fountain pen has an 18-carat gold medium nib, and uses bottled ink or cartridges.
